Slowcooker barbeque?!

Question: Slowcooker barbeque!?
OK I know it's not really barbeque, and barbequing is not an option!. What cut of pork would you use, and would you cook it in some sauce, or let it just cook in it's own juices!? How long to cook and low or high!?
We had some that was on high for about 5 hours this weekend that was a little tough from boston butt-about 4 lbs!.
Please give insight!.
also, what cut of beef!? Looking for something under $3 a pound if possible!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
You can add any bottled BBQ sauce to a slow cooking cut of meat!.

I would've cooked the pork longer on a lower heat!. in the last hour or so, add the sauce!. (An acidic sauce or marinade will also tenderize)

For a slow cooked beef, I like to use Chuck Roast!. It has even fat to keep it moist and flavorful!. I can usually find for under $3/lb, but it's getting harder!. When you do find on sale, stock up and freeze!Www@FoodAQ@Com

As a competition BBQ Cook, I can tell you that you did not cook it long enough!. A Boston Butt Pork Roast is a Must in competition!. The internal temp needs to be 180 degrees F, and for shredding it (fall apart tender) the internal temp needs to be 195 degrees F!. The recipe I am giving you has won awards and can be done in a crock pot/slow cooker!. It is from my website!.
CHOPPED PORK SANDWICHES

1 6-7 lb Pork Roast (Boston Butt/Shoulder)
Demon Pig BBQ Rub
2 bottles "Demon Pig BBQ Sauce"

Trim Excess fat from roast!. Sprinkle with Demon Pig BBQ Rub!.
Cook on grill with indirect heat at 225/250 degrees for 6 hours to an internal temp of 160 degrees!. (This can be done in an oven or bbq smoker!.)

Place in pan with 1/2 cup water, cover and place back on heat for one hour to finish, 195 degrees F!. Remove from heat, let stand 30 minutes!. Carefully uncover!. Let stand an additional 15 minutes!.

Pull and chop meat to just under bite size pieces!.

Warm "Demon Pig BBQ Sauce" slightly and mix thoroughly until lightly covered throughout meat!. Serve additional sauce warm on the side!.

Serve on buns with your favorite sides!.

For crockpot, put on high for 6-8 hours!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pork Ribs, Pork Roast, Pork Shoulder, Etc!.

You will need to cook it on low for 8 hours or 4 hours on high!. Just made this last night, LOL

also, use 2 cups broth (whatever you have) I used beef!. Or one can of it!.

When it is done - drain it and add 1 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce to the crock-pot!. Heat on high for about 30 minutes to an hour or until it is heated through!.If you like the cheap stuff; use!. If you like expensive; use that!. That is the key!. If you don't like the sauce - you won't like this at all!.

P!.S!. You can drain and bake in the oven for about 35 minutes also on 350* (that's what I did)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I always use a boston butt to make bbq!. You put the boston butt in the slow cooker and then put water to cover halfway of the boston butt!. Then let it cook all night on low!. When yours was tough this weekend it probably wasn't cooked long enough!. I had the same problem and then let it cook longer and sure enough it became tender!. I forgot to tell you to pour the water out once the bbq is done then you add whatever kind of bbq sauce you likeWww@FoodAQ@Com

boston butt is a good cut for slow cooking, sounds like you need to lower your heat and let it do for about 7-8 hours!.if you want a really rich broth, roast carrots, celery and onion,(this is called mirepoix) until brown add this to your pot, with a few tsp of tomatoe paste, few drops of worchestireshire and fresh thyme!.top with water or stock, the worse part is ,now you have to wait!.!.
