Would it be possible to make a 3D hot air balloon cake similar to this?!
I would like to make a 3 dimensional hot air balloon cake for my son's birthday party similar to this craft at the family fun website http://jas!.familyfun!.go!.com/arts-and-cra!.!.!.
I was thinking maybe the basket part could be the cake and I could use a real balloon for the balloon part!. Is this possible do you think!? If so would it be too difficult!? If you have any tips I'd love to hear them!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your idea would be really simple, actually!. If the basket part is the cake then all you need to do is use one box cake and make the two square cakes in the directions!. Then just layer them!.
You could even hollow out the middle cake part to make it like a real basket if you wanted to!.
Just use white frosting and food coloring to make the different colors in the basket!. You could frost a base coat of light yellow and then tint the rest a little darker and put it in a ziplock baggie with one corner clipped off - that will make you a frosting bag and you can pipe on the lines for the basket!.
Then just attach your balloon (filled with helium so it stays up) and your done!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that would be really cool!. Or even, make a sheet cake (perhaps not that big) as the ground below, and use a basket anyway!. Decorate the "grass" etc, have people sitting in lawn chairs, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
