Haha, wedding cakes are now mostly about the decoration aspect which may i say SUCKS!
I think i'm going to have chocolate eclairs or krispy kreme doughnuts or something else just as trailer trash but hey at least it'll taste good lol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think there are a couple of things going on with wedding cakes!. If you've watched those fancy cake shows on the Food Network!. They work on those cakes for days so even if they are stored in the fridge they are getting stale!. Plus a large cake needs to be some what dense to be structurally sound!. A lot of people opt for the cheapest sheet cake they can find for most of the guests with a smaller cake for show!. It stands to reason that a cheaper cake is made with cheap ingredients!. I made a wedding cake this past weekend and heard from the event co-ordinator that the guests said it actually tasted good!. So a lot of people feel that wedding cake doesn't usually taste all that great!. To me that is a sad statement about the wedding cake industry because bakers charge a lot of $$$ when you add the word wedding to the word cake!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some wedding cakes taste good!. Mine do, for example!.

The reason a lot of wedding cakes don't taste good is that people always want to cut wedding costs by skimping on the cake!. They look at the price of a box of cake mix and a can of frosting and don't see how a bakery could possibly want 2!.50 per serving, or more!. So they go with the cheapest place or person they can find!.!.!.and all that person can afford to use are the box mixes (which really aren't bad, but they can be so much better with a few more things added)!.

The other thing is that a wedding cake often has to sit out for hours!. A lot of the sweet things that we like to eat have to be kept refrigerated, which limits what can go on the wedding cake!. Often the icing that's used is all shortening-based, without butter (although I've had some really good frosting that was made with just shortening)!. also, if you've never had fondant before, the texture can be disturbing at first!. If it's Wilton fondant, the taste can be pretty terrible too!.

The small slices are an industry standard!. The slice is 1" by 2" by 4" (the height)!. The idea is that there will be food served at the wedding, so by the time the cake is cut, people won't be very hungry!. The couple could plan for bigger slices of cake, but the bakery isn't going to sell a bigger cake to them for the same price just because their guests want bigger pieces of cake!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think because fruit cakes are usually not liked by many (yet I love them) and that is the traditional choice!. They are more or less decoration really, but I think people are beginning to realize that that splashing out on such an expensive cake, they might a well make them both taste and look good, so choccie cakes and such are beginning to make an entrance into the wedding world!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Good question! When we got married, we definitely wanted a wedding cake that tasted good!. We went to a high end bakery with a reputation for their delicious cakes and they let us create the flavors for our own cake!. It was WONDERFUL! So many of our guests complimented us on how good the cake was and a few months after we got married, we saw that this bakery made our cake's flavor combinations a regular item!Www@FoodAQ@Com

When you make a wedding cake, it has to be made much heavier in order to hold together and support the extra decorations that are put on it!. Sometimes they even freeze the cake before they frost it!. I saw a web site that rented out fake cakes for the wedding!Www@FoodAQ@Com

actually i never tasted a wedding cake!. i forget about it!. and go for something else to look
and besides the bride are usually obsesses with everything looking perfect that they forget about taste or that ppl are going to eat it!.

its just for show basically!.
which is stupid i rather have a good
tasting cake than a pretty oneWww@FoodAQ@Com

Completely agree! Not only is the outside weird to chew on (with those fondant flowers that have been sitting there for the whole day, maybe even the day before!?) but people always get stupid, disgusting flavors!. Like lemon custard!. Custard is so nasty in cakes!. When will someone have a funfetti wedding cake!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wedding cakes are traditionally fruit, which not alot of ppl like and the price you pay is ridiculous for something that goes to waste!.for my wedding we are having a sponge!.half the price, looks exactly the same and ppl will actually eat itWww@FoodAQ@Com
