What to put on a themed "happy feet" birthday cake?!

Question: What to put on a themed "happy feet" birthday cake!?
My friend's son is turning 2 and we wanted to make him a neat birthday cake themed out like the movie happy feet!. I've made cakes in the past using things around the house or things that are easy to buy!. (ie!. using crushed vanilla wafers for beach sand, lifesavers for tubes)!. I am planning on getting the happy feet penguins from the store, so thats not a problem!. I know there has to be ice and snow on the cake, but not everyone likes cocoanut, which would be the most obvious choice!. What do you think about large grained sugar!? what else could I use!? I also could make some water using blue jello, ive done that before and it looked amazing (causes a nice wave like effect) What else could we use to decorate this cake!?!? Thanks!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Make "ice bergs" - You can do this by icing parchment cones!. Or freezing mounds of icing then placing them on the cake!. Then just "carve" them to however you like, unless they look like icebergs already, and a mound of icing probably would!. The sugar will give it a nice sparkle!. Wilton makes a flaked crystal like sugar sprinkle!. Available at any craft store - and sometimes at WalMart!. So you don't have such a raw sugar crunch to the icing!.

Have fun! It sounds wonderful!Www@FoodAQ@Com

the Coconut sounds like it would be a wonderful idea and make it look so pretty but your right now a lot of people like it!.!. i was thinking like the white part in the Carmel creams!.!.but you could always use like the bottom part of the cake for snow and do like a sky thing on top so if they don't like coconut they can eat a top piece!.!.
good luck!.!.

I like the idea of the large grain sugar!.!.!.!.it would look awesome!.!.!.just like glistening snow! I think you are already on the right track!.!.!.he is turning 2, keep it simple I would do half or 3/4 of the cahe in snow, maybe give a little dimension with a slight rolling hill (all covered in snow) and on the edge of one whole side I would do the water!. Place your penguins where ever!.!.!. they could also be 'dancing' around a '2' candle!.!.!.I would try to keep it simple though,!.!.!.he will not remember this cake unless you are wanting to WOW the parents and guests which is great!.!.!.!.
I made a 3D rubber ducky cake!.!.!.!.My guests and I loved it more than the kids!.!.!.!.lol!.!.!.!.Too much will only distract the little ones and will make it more difficult for them to focus on the main theme!.!.!.!.!.!.Good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com
