This first recipe was given to me by my mother, who got it from her mother who got it from her mother-in-law, who got it from her mother!. The recipe was made into a poem and has remained that way ever since!.

BILL COOKIES

Bill cookies, and rightly they are named
If they are gone in a jffiy, no one can be blamed
Take 1 cup sugar, 1/2 c lard
Cream these together, add 2 eggs and beat hard
One scant teaspoon soda, now put in a cup
Add a mite of hot water, and now twill foam up
Sift 3 cups of flour and place in a bowl
Mix smoothly and swiftly, and then neatly roll
If the dough is too soft, a little flour add
I'll assure you better cookies, your husband ne'er had!.

Add vanilla (I think this was added along the way)!.

You can use butter or margarine in place of the lard!.

I will give you two more recipes!. This first one calls for a box of cake mix (you can pick one up on sale for about 89 cents at your local store)!.
