Why it is difficult to cook in mountains?!

Question: Why it is difficult to cook in mountains!?
Answers:
As we go up from the sea level, the atmospheric pressure decreases!. So on top of a mountain the air pressure is lower than at the bottom of the mountain!. As the air pressure decreases, the boiling point of water decreases and it boils at temperatures below 100 degree Celsius!. When we cook food using water on a mountain it gets cooked at temperatures lower than 100 degrees and so it does not get cooked properly!. If you use a pressure cooker, this problem will not be there!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The lower the atmospheric pressure the FASTER water boils !. !. !.it just boils at a lower temperature so it takes longer to cook!. The water temperature is lower and it is the heat in the water that cooks the food!.

That goes for baking too!. even though the water evaporates, the heat isn't high enough to set the proteins so it takes longer to cook!. Cakes and rising things take different recipes to compensate for that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I worked in Antarctica for a year at the elevation of 12 000 feet as a cook!. As everyone else says water boils quicker so obviously would take longer to cook products such as pasta etc!.!.!.

also, when baking stuff like cakes and breads where you would use a leavener, I always reduced the leavener by half!. If you use 2 tsp of yeast, I'd use maybe 1 1/4 tsp!. Same goes with baking powder or baking soda!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

OXYGEN in the ATMOSPHERE (or air pressure)!.!.!.!.!.IF you are talking about HIGH altitude mountains, the atmosphere is thinner!. Oxygen content is best closer to sea level!. Do you get out of breath faster in the higher mountains when you exert yourself!? Why do you need oxygen masks in airplanes!? Same for cooking!. You need the oxygen in the atmosphere!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In high mountains, boiling point is at a much lower temperature than at sea level!. Even though the food is boiling, it's actually not not hot enough to cook and this makes cooking very difficult to judge!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

'the altitude makes a big difference and u have to adjust the cooking time and temps and sometimes the ingredients to get the proper cooking methods!.!.!. what takes time on land is usually quicker up in the mountains!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The higher altitude will vary your cooking time thats all!. Just read instructions on cake mixes it warns you that higher altitudes may require longer cooking times!. The weather can even affect baking especially homemade candies!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Atmospheric pressure decreases the higher you are!.!.!. Its hard to boil water or ignite natural gas at such low pressuresWww@FoodAQ@Com

It's because of the lesser availability of oxygen at higher attitude!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What's difficult about it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

cause you're high!. hard to do anything high!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

the altitude!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you should know it betterWww@FoodAQ@Com
