Is it true that you can use vodka for pearl luster/pearl dust on fondant icing?!
If so, can I use Absolut Vodka or is there a brand that you could recommend!? They also said that lemon extract is okay to mix with the pearl luster/pearl dust!?
So do you mix these with the fondant icing or do you just paint it on the fondant icing!?
Hope you can help me!. I'm a beginner and would really like to make a beautiful cake for my grandmother's birthday!. I know how make a cake but I don't know how to use pearl dust/pearl luster on the fondant icing!. God bless!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You use vodka to paint on top of frosting or fondant!.!.!. it evaporates faster than water and when it evaporates it leaves only the color or luster and doesnt make your fondant or frosting watery!. I've never mixed the pear luster in with the frosting!.!.!. The way I use it is with a paint brush and usually on top of fondant but you can use it on frosting too!.!.!. You can use any type of vodka!. I've even used the flavored ones, lol!.!.!. good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Alcohol is used because it evaporates faster than water!. You do not want to get the fondant real wet so that is why the alcohol is used!. So you can use any edible alcohol based product!. Generally vodka is used as it does not have a very pronounced flavor!. If you want a lemon flavor for example you could use lemon extract, lemon vodka, lemon cello!.!.!.!. If you want any particular flavor use that type of extract or that flavor liquor!.
I would guess the coloring can be used one of two ways brush on dry or put some dry on a plate and add a drop or two of your alcohol of choice and you will have a liquid paint!. It would depend on the effect that you are trying to get!.
Dry brushing will most likely give you a gentle lighter color wet will hive you a darker or more defined color, think of it like a blush or eyeshadow verses an eye liner!. (I hope that helps)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am by no means a cake decorator; however I don't see vodka being of any use!. It tastes terrible, evaporates at room temp, and is nothing more than a solvent!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
