Answers:
If you mix the milk with a bit of vinegar, then it can be substituted for the buttermilk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For recipes, a substitute for buttermilk can be made by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar or 1 3/4 teaspoons cream of tartar to each cup of regular milk!. The soured milk should be allowed to sit for ten minutes before being used!.[6]

A low-fat substitute can be made by mixing equal parts of skim milk and low-fat yogurt!.[7]Www@FoodAQ@Com

You would be hard pressed to find buttemilk over 2% fat now a days!. Almost all buttermilk is pretty low fat since it really is "Cultered" and not the real deal!. Real buttermilk has a lot of fat in it and will actually have little bits of buttery cheese type peices in it and is pretty thick!. Been at least 40 years since I have had anything like that!.

However, using thse other folks remedies is just as good and saves you a trip to the store especially if you dont drink buttermilk anyhow!. Used in a lot of recipes but most folks hate the taste by itself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

put 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice in your measuring cup, then add milk to measure 1 cup, set aside for about 10 mins, and voila!.!.you have your buttermilk substitution!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Buttermilk has an acid base that is why you add the viniger or lemonWww@FoodAQ@Com

Just add 1tbs lemon juce or vinegar to it, and you've got butter milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
