I wash and cut the tops off my peppers, then place them in a steamer basket in a pot and steam them until they are just fork tender!. Then I stuff and bake!. I'm from the south and my grandma used cornbread stuffing instead of rice and meat stuffing and it's wonderful!. Here's how it's done in case you want to try something different: Make a cornbread using whatever your favorite recipe is, I use 1 cup corn meal mix, 1/2 cup self rising flour, one egg and 1 cup milk (or a little more to make your batter a little creamy) Bake at 450 for 23 minutes or until brown!. Remove from pan and crumble in bowl!. Now prepare meat:Save the tops you cut from your peppers and add them to one pound hamburger along with about 1/4 cup chopped onion and salt, pepper, garlic powder or whatever seasoning you like!. Fry until the meat is thoroughly cooked!. Drain!. Add to crumbed cornbread!. Now add 2 cans Cream of Mushroom soup!. Mix well, stuff your steamed peppers and bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes!. It's soooo good and easy!. Even better the next day!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I don't know what kind of peppers you are using but all kinds that I have stuffed have been left raw, I think that if you boil it it will soften it too much and although I think that it will still taste good, the texture & structure may change!. What are you stuffing it with too!!?! I love a new recipe!Www@FoodAQ@Com
My tried and true recipe calls for me to blanch my green peppers for 5 minutes in boiling water!. It doesn't cook them all the way, they are still firm, and nicer to eat after baking them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I've had stuffed bell peppers made both ways!. I like the version that par boils the peppers for a minute or two before stuffing!. It tastes much better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I have done them both ways also and I love the way my mom taught me how to do them and that was stuff them raw much better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I blanch peppers for about 5 minutes personal preference I guess!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I always stuff them raw, they'll cook enough in the oven, otherwise they get too soggy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
DO NOT BOIL THEM!!! the become mushy and wont hold anything inside!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
I've never boiled them first!. Don't they go all floppy and difficult to stuff and handle!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
