Instead of using a yellow cake, I would try pound cake - it just tastes so much better!. Of course, you could also make a REAL shortcake!.!.!.!.!. but that sounds like effort! I'd send you the recipe I used to use, but I don't have it anymore - I'd google, and just make sure to use one with really basic ingredients - lots of butter, eggs, and flour, sugar, and vanilla!. Use a loaf pan!.
Regarding the strawberries - slice them and put a little sugar over them (maybe a quarter cup per pint of strawberries) and refrigerate!. They'll keep for several days (good way to avoid spoilage) and the sugar will help make a natural syrup!.
When you're ready to eat this amazing concoction, just slice up the cake, and serve with spoonfuls of strawberries/syrup and large dollops of whipped cream!
(now I want strawberry shortcake!.!.!. too bad the strawberry season is over in Spain)
EDIT: Try this recipe - it looks a lot like the one I used to have!. You might want to make a half batch though, use a loaf pan and adjust the cooking time!. http://allrecipes!.com/Recipe/Butter-Poun!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mash the strawberries and mix the strawberries with sugar or fruit juice to make them sweet and saucy!. Cut slices of the cake and spoon the strawberry mixture over the cake, then top with whipped cream!. If you are having guests, put leftover whole strawberries on the cake or around it on the plate!.
