No, the bones are not edible!. Pan-frying or baked are both good methods!. Some fish (like herring and sardines) do have edible bones!. Great question!
FYI: Historians believe that tilapia is the same fish that Christ fed to the masses!Www@FoodAQ@Com

you shouldnt eat the bones at all!. if youve purchased the fillets they usually do not have bones in them!.
cooking options!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
1!. use your grill, be sure to spray the grill rack with non stick spray, tilapia is a very delicvate fish so do be carefull when flipping!.
2!. baking works as well, high temp, 425 or so!.
3!. pan frying is my favorite!. olive oil for nonstick!.
if you bake or pan fry you can do all sorts of things, breaded, battered, or straight up they all work!. and dont be afraid to experiment with the seasoning!. garlic, butter, sea salt, fresh rosemary, lemon and lemon zest all go great with this fish!.
if you use the grill its better to use the fillet straight up!.
you can also marinade this fish very easily as well!.
its a very light flavored fish and really absorbs different flavors well!.
enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No Honey you shouldn't eat the bones on purpose!. If you eat a bone by accident follow it down with some bread and water right away!. You can put Tilapia on the grill in the oven or cook it on top of the stove!. My favorite way to prepare it is by seasoning it with some season salt and putting some butter on top of each piece and wrapping them in foil and baking them! Good LuckWww@FoodAQ@Com
The only fish bones I've ever heard of people eating are sardines, and possibly anchovies!. Those are incredibly small fish, so the bones don't hurt your average human!.
Though, you can fry up the tails of some fish, IE catfish, for an interesting (and very crunchy) treat!. And since tilapia is basically salt water catfish!.!.!. ;-)Www@FoodAQ@Com
