This recipe is delicious! I pressed the cookie into a colorful large granule sugar!.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla

Into a bowl sift together flour, salt, and baking powder!. In a large bowl with an electric mixer beat butter until creamy!. Gradually add sugar, beating until mixture is light and fluffy!. Add egg and vanilla and beat until combined well!. Gradually add flour mixture, beating until mixture just forms a dough!.

Divide dough between 2 large sheets of wax paper and form each half into a 10- x 1 1/2-inch log, wrapping it in wax paper!. Chill logs until firm, at least 4 hours, and up to 5 days!. Dough may be frozen, wrapped in foil, 2 months!. Let dough soften slightly before cutting!. Preheat oven to 375°F!. and lightly butter a baking sheet!.

Cut dough into 1/8-inch-thick slices and arrange slices about 1/2 inch apart on baking sheet!. Bake cookies in batches in middle of oven until golden around edges, 10 to 12 minutes, and transfer with a metal spatula to a rack to cool!. 3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon milk
Powdered sugar, for rolling out dough

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt!. Set aside!. Place butter and sugar in large bowl of electric stand mixer and beat until light in color!. Add egg and milk and beat to combine!. Put mixer on low speed, gradually add flour, and beat until mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl!. Divide the dough in half, wrap in waxed paper, and refrigerate for 2 hours!.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F!.

Sprinkle surface where you will roll out dough with powdered sugar!. Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from refrigerator at a time, sprinkle rolling pin with powdered sugar, and roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick!. Move the dough around and check underneath frequently to make sure it is not sticking!. If dough has warmed during rolling, place cold cookie sheet on top for 10 minutes to chill!. Cut into desired shape, place at least 1-inch apart on greased baking sheet, parchment, or silicone baking mat, and bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are just beginning to turn brown around the edges, rotating cookie sheet halfway through baking time!. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes after removal from oven and then move to complete cooling on wire rack!. Serve as is or ice as desired!. INGREDIENTS
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon extract (optional)
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup white sugar for decoration




DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C)!. Sift together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt; set aside!.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, oil, confectioners' sugar and white sugar until well blended!. Stir in the eggs, vanilla and lemon extracts!. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until well blended!. Roll the dough into walnut sized balls!. Place the cookies 2 inches apart onto the cookie sheet!. Flatten cookies to 1/8 inch thickness using the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar!. Colored sugar may be used if you do not plan to frost cookies later!.
Bake for 9 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are golden brown!. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

SUGAR COOKIES 1

1/2 c!. butter
1 c!. sugar
1 egg
1-3/4 c!. + 2 T!. all-purpose flour
1 T!. milk or half & half
1/2 t!. vanilla
1/2 t!. salt
2 t!. baking powder

Cream butter with sugar, adding sugar gradually!.
Cream together until light and fluffy!.
Add egg, beat well!.
Add milk or half & half and vanilla and mix well!.
Add in 1/4 cups flour mixture (all your dry ingredients) to the butter-egg mixture, and mix well!.
Form into ball!.
Wrap in wax paper or plastic paper and chill at least 8 hours!.
To bake - remove small amount of dough and roll on lightly floured surface and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters!.
You can also roll them into small balls and light press down on the cookie sheet!.
Use a Teflon cookie sheet or a buttered cookie sheet!.
Bake in preheated 375 degree oven approximately 8 minutes!.

Two variations of this basic recipe are:
CHOCOLATE SUGAR COOKIES:
To butter, sugar, egg, milk mixture, add 2 squares of chocolate, melted or sift 1/3 c!. cocoa with flour, baking powder and salt mixture!.
Coninue as for plain cookie!.
Bake in preheated 325 degree oven!.

ALMOND-SPICE SUGAR COOKIES:
To the sifted flour mixture, add 1/3 c!. finely grated or chopped almonds and 1/2 t!. each of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and 1/2 grated lemon rind!.
Continue as for plain cookie!.


SUGAR COOKIES 2

1 c!. soft butter
2 eggs
3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 t!. salt
1-2/3 c!. sugar
3 t!. vanilla
2-1/2 t!. baking powder
Nuts, raisins, chocolate bits, sugars, etc!. for decoration (optional)

Beat together in a large bowl, the butter and sugar until light and fluffy!.
Add eggs and vanilla and blend well!.
In a seperate bowl mix flour, baking powder and salt!.
Add to butter-sugar mixture!.
Roll balls of dough the size of walnuts between the palm of your hands and place about 2 inches apart on a Teflon cookie sheet or buttered cookie sheet!.
Using any object you want, butter the round flat side, dip into granulated sugar and press down on cookie balls until about 1/8 inch thick!.
The round does not have to be rebuttered between each pressing, but it does have to be dipped into sugar each time!.
Bake in preheated 400 degree oven 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges!.

Try these - they are a big hit at my house!!!


1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Granulated sugar or colored sugar


1!. Mix powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, almond extract and egg in large bowl!. Stir in remaining ingredients except granulated sugar!. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours!.

2!. Heat oven to 375oF!. Lightly grease cookie sheet!.

3!. Divide dough in half!. Roll each half 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured surface!. Cut into desired shapes with 2- to 2 1/2-inch cookie cutters!. Sprinkle with granulated sugar!. Place on cookie sheet!.

4!. Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until edges are light brown!. Remove from cookie sheet!. Cool on wire rack!.
