This recipe is delicious! I pressed the cookie into a colorful large granule sugar!.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Into a bowl sift together flour, salt, and baking powder!. In a large bowl with an electric mixer beat butter until creamy!. Gradually add sugar, beating until mixture is light and fluffy!. Add egg and vanilla and beat until combined well!. Gradually add flour mixture, beating until mixture just forms a dough!.
Divide dough between 2 large sheets of wax paper and form each half into a 10- x 1 1/2-inch log, wrapping it in wax paper!. Chill logs until firm, at least 4 hours, and up to 5 days!. Dough may be frozen, wrapped in foil, 2 months!. Let dough soften slightly before cutting!. Preheat oven to 375°F!. and lightly butter a baking sheet!.
Cut dough into 1/8-inch-thick slices and arrange slices about 1/2 inch apart on baking sheet!. Bake cookies in batches in middle of oven until golden around edges, 10 to 12 minutes, and transfer with a metal spatula to a rack to cool!. Sprinkle surface where you will roll out dough with powdered sugar!. Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from refrigerator at a time, sprinkle rolling pin with powdered sugar, and roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick!. Move the dough around and check underneath frequently to make sure it is not sticking!. If dough has warmed during rolling, place cold cookie sheet on top for 10 minutes to chill!. Cut into desired shape, place at least 1-inch apart on greased baking sheet, parchment, or silicone baking mat, and bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are just beginning to turn brown around the edges, rotating cookie sheet halfway through baking time!. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes after removal from oven and then move to complete cooling on wire rack!. Serve as is or ice as desired!. Form into ball!.
Wrap in wax paper or plastic paper and chill at least 8 hours!.
To bake - remove small amount of dough and roll on lightly floured surface and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters!.
You can also roll them into small balls and light press down on the cookie sheet!.
Use a Teflon cookie sheet or a buttered cookie sheet!.
Bake in preheated 375 degree oven approximately 8 minutes!.

Using any object you want, butter the round flat side, dip into granulated sugar and press down on cookie balls until about 1/8 inch thick!.
The round does not have to be rebuttered between each pressing, but it does have to be dipped into sugar each time!.
Bake in preheated 400 degree oven 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges!.
