When a recipe calls for shortening can i just use butter!
Answers:
yep absolutely!. I never use lard and my baked goods always come out fine Www@FoodAQ@Com
You can use butter as a substitute for shortening in many recipes, but if you are baking you are better off using hard shortening like the old favorite, Crisco!.
The browning will be more controlled and the flour has more time to brown to full flavor!.
Margarine or butter can be subbed out in many cookie recipes instead of hard shortening!.
Frying chicken!? Not butter!. Period!Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes, but use UNsalted butter for baking (or the salt will burn, and can bake too quickly)!.!.!.!. Technically, butter, margarine, Crisco, oil and lard are ALL shortenings:) If you're baking cookies, though, Crisco makes much moister, fluffier cookies; and butter makes a thinner, crisper cookie!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, you can substitute butter for shortening and your recipe should turn out just fine!. Just remember butter browns faster then shortening and that your recipe might be a bit to salty if you don't decrease the salt in the recipe by about 1/4 teaspoon!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
