Becca,
I like to saute mine, whole, in a bit of very light olive oil!. When they are a tiny bit brown on a side or two, I add a little water, some fresh dill or fennel, put a lid on tight, and the water will steam and finish them!.

You could steam them or boil them until they are cooked, but still crunchy!. That would be the healthy option!.
Personally, I like to simmer them for several hours!. I put in some bacon and chopped onion, salt and pepper!. I let the water cook down 2-3 times!. They are very soft and ohhhh soooo good!. I know that they are not as healthy cooked like that!. But, that is my favorite way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If your grand mother made them she most likely boiled them!.!.!.
In a pot fry 4 pieces of bacon until crisp!.remove and set aside!.!.!.add 1 chopped onion and a pinch of salt saute until translucent,Add about 2 pounds of green beans and 1/2 cup water and let simmer for 45 minutes!. crumble bacon just before serving if you like!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree!. You can steam or boil them until they are tender but still a little bit crunchy!. Snap the ends off to get rid of those annoying parts on the end!. Afterwards add some butter and salt to taste!. That last part isn't good for you, but it's a delicious way to die!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

First boil them and then you can fry them and season them however you want to!. You boil them first because then they can cook throughly weit the water!. But when you boil them in the pot with water put a teaspoon of salt so the greenbeans can absorb the flavor!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have always boiled them and they turn out really good!.
I never really know how long it takes, it depends on the size of the beans!. Poke them with a fork to find out how well done they are!.
Drain them, put some butter and salt and pepper on and enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I like to either lightly boil or steam, then add a llittle butter, bacon, and onions!.

Or fry up some bacon and then add the green beans before the bacon is all the way done!. And a little chopped up onion as well!.
