Can you make FRIED BREAD without baking powder?!


Question: Can you make FRIED BREAD without baking powder!?
I really want to make fried bread right now but forgot to get baking powder at the store!.!. can I do it without!? If not, simple bread recipes!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

* Traditional Fry Bread

1 pkg!. dry yeast
3 cups warm water
1 tbsp!. salt
1 tbsp!. sugar
6 cups flour
2 tbsp!. oil
1/2 cup cornmeal

Dissolve yeast in warm water then add salt and sugar!. Let stand for 5 minutes covered with a towel!. Add flour and oil to liquid mixture!. Mix and put on floured bread board and knead until mixture is smooth!. Put dough in a greased bowl, cover with towel and let it rise for 1 1/2 hours!. Remove from bowl and put on bread board, knead in the 1/2 cornmeal!. Make dough into 2 balls rolling each into 12 inch circles 1/2 inch thick!. Cut into 2 inch squares and drop into hot cooking oil!. (Works best with cast iron skillet!.) Fry 5 to 6 pieces at a time for only a few moments!. Drain on paper towel and sprinkle with white powdered sugar!.

*NAVAJO FRY BREAD

1 1/2 cups flour
1 pkg active dry yeast
1 5 oz can evaporated milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
2 1/2 - 3 cups flour
vegetable oil
confectioners sugar

Stir together 1 1/2 cups of the flour with yeast until well combined!.
In a medium saucepan, combine milk, sugar, water, shortening and salt!. Heat until shortening melts and liquid measures 120F to 125F on an instant read thermometer (very warm)!.
Stir the liquid into the flour, beating with an electric mixer!. Stir in eggs 1 at a time, beating after each addition!. Beat for several minutes, gradually adding the remaining flour!.
Turn out onto a lightly floured pastry board!. Knead in as much of the remaining flour as is needed to make a stiff dough!. Continue to knead for 5-8 minutes, or until dough is smooth and elastic!. Shape into a ball, place in a lightly oiled bowl, turning once to coat with oil, and cover with plastic wrap!. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight until ready to use!.
When ready to use, let dough reach room temperature and punch down!. Let rest, covered with a damp paper towel for 10 minutes!.
Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and roll into flat rectabgles 3 inches by 4 inches wide of an 1/8-1/4 inch thickness!.
Bring oil in a deep pan to a temperature of 365F!. Using a slotted or mesh spoon, carefully lower two rectangles at a time into the hot oil and fry, turning once, for a total of about 1 1/2-2 minutes (or until golden)!. Remove and drain on paper towels!. Sprinkle liberally with confectioners sugar while still warm and serve!.

*Pumpkin Fry Bread

5 c!. self-rising flour
1/2 c!. oil
Sweet milk, amt!. to make biscuit dough
2 cups fresh pumpkin or 1-16oz!. can pumpkin
1 tbsp!. milk or water
3/4 cups brown sugar
1/4 tsp!. cinnamon
1/4 tsp!. nutmeg
1/4 tsp!. vanilla

Mix flour, oil and lukewarm milk & rest of the things together!. Let dough stand and rise 1 hour!. Roll the dough on board and cut with doughnut cutter!. Fry the bread in skillet using oil for frying!.Serve hot with butter or powdered sugar!.

#TIP For Making Best Fried Bread:-
The magic is in frying the bread quickly! The hotter the oil, the less time it takes to cook!. The less time it takes to cook, the lighter the texture and lower the fat content!.

If u have instant yeast u can use that instead it will make the end result a little "crispier" on the outside and not as fulling as the baking powder but it will still do the trick!.!.!.

With the yeast however be sure the leave the entire dough to rise for atleast 15mins and then another 15mins after balling them individually!.!.!.

Otherwise without either of them when u fry the dough it won't puff like it should!.!.!.You will end up with flat bread

4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
4 cups shortening for frying

Combine flour and salt!. Stir in 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water!. Knead until soft but not sticky!. Shape dough into balls about 3 inches in diameter!. Flatten into patties 1/2 inch thick, and make a small hole in the center of each patty!.
Fry one at a time in 1 inch of hot shortening, turning to brown on both sides!. Drain on paper towels!.

What's fried bread!? If you're making French toast, you don't use baking powder anyways!. Just dip the bread into milk/beaten egg/salt & cinnamon, and fry in butter on both sides until golden brownWww@FoodAQ@Com
