How can I cook a flank steak without grilling it?!

Question: How can I cook a flank steak without grilling it!?
I'm on phase 1 of the South Beach diet and they're really stressing protein so I was just wondering how I could cook a flank steak without grilling it!. I've never worked a grill in my life and judging by my previous experiences with machines that have the ability to self-combust, I'm not going to try it!. Any suggestions!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Flank steak is a relatively tough cut of meat, so be sure to marinate it for a while in something with a litte acidity (lime juice will work well) and cook it at a high heat!.

Preheat oven to 425!. Heat a heavy, oven safe (cast iron works great) skillet with a bit of olive oil till smoking hot!. Add steak and sear for five minutes!. Flip steak and immediately pop it into the hot oven for 5-8 more minutes depending on how you like your steak!.

Let the steak rest covered with foil for 10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute, then slice horizontally against the grain at an angle so that you get wide slices!.

Enjoy with a great salad and good luck with the SBD!Www@FoodAQ@Com

A great way to cook a flank steak is to sear it in a grill pan!. A grill pan is a frying pan that has ridges on it that help give your meat the attractive restaurant style grill marks that everyone loves!. Depending on the thickness of your steak, simply season the meat with salt, pepper and herbs and then cook for 2-5 minutes on each side on medium high heat!.

Here is a recipe for a New York strip that would translate well to a flank steak!. Be sure to let the meat rest after removing it from the pan and cut across the grain of the meat for a more tender steak!.
