The setting for the oven is broil you want a hot high heat to cook the meat from the top down!. The longer you leave the steaks in the oven the less rare they become!.
Bring steaks to room temperature and use a clean cloth to remove excess moisture!.
Move oven rack about 6 inches from heating element!.
Place a cast-iron skillet on the rack!.
Pre-heat broiler and skillet by setting the oven to broil and waiting 15 to 20 minutes!.
While the oven is pre-heating, rub steaks with olive oil, kosher salt and fresh coarsely ground pepper!.
Once the skillet is pre-heated, pull out the oven rack and carefully lay steaks in the skillet!. (Be very careful because the pan will be extremely hot and may spit and splatter!.)
Close the oven and sear the steaks for 3 minutes on one side then turn and sear the opposite side for 3 minutes!.
Once seared, set the oven to 500F and cook until the steaks are done to your liking!. Turn steaks half way through the remaining cooking time!.

There is no such thing as a steak skillet!. If you are talking about fillets, it depends on how thick they are!. You don't want to bake them, you want to broil them, and you want to do it pretty close to the heat unless they are more than an inch thick!.
Basically, you want to cook them hot and fast so that the outside gets browned and crispy but the inside stays rare or medium-rare!. Again, this depends on the cut of steak and the thickness!. But you are best off erring on the side of caution!. cook them close to the flame until they look well-browned, then turn them over and cook them for the same amount of time the first side took!. If in doubt, take them out and cut into them!. You can always cook them longer, but if you overcook them, there's nothing you can do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maximum heat and about 4 minutes each side 6" from the heat, depending upon the cut of steak, and how you want them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
