When recipe says PECK, it is a bigger measure like use cup such as 8 cups of flour or 12 cups of sugar etc!. But when recipe says SPECK, it is a small measure like pinch of salt, pinch of sugar, pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg etc!. Let me put it another way to differ them is like when you give a pinch to your sweet heart's cheek, that is SPECK!. But when she punches you back, that is PECK, lol!. Get it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
I have honestly never heard that term used, but I am guessing that is the same as a 'dash'!. It just means to use a little bit of the ingredient!. So you don't really even need to measure it!. Just put a little in between your fingers, or in the palm of your hand, and put it in the mixture!. More than likely, that ingredient is just for flavoring anyways!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
A peck is an archaic measure of dry goods!. It was a specific, very small amount, usually used when very poor people were buying very small amounts of spices!.
I have never heard of speck used in cooking, except as an adjective!. "A little speck or two on top, for decoration!."Www@FoodAQ@Com
