What can i use instead of hoisin sauce?!


Question: What can i use instead of hoisin sauce!?
i need something that tastes like hoisin sauce because i can't find it in stores!.

Homemade Hoisin Sauce

4 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons black bean paste or peanut butter
1 tablespoon honey or molasses
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons sesame oil
20 drops hot sauce
1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Hoisin sauce is basically a Chinese BBQ sauce!.

Why not try a sweeter American BBQ sauce and doctor it up with teriyaki sauce!? Hoisin sauce is also very thick, so thicken up the BBQ sauce with a mixture of cornstarch & water!.

Now, I know it's not a perfect substitute for hoisin sauce and purists will gasp, but it works in a pinch!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hoisin is very comon in the asian isle of most groceries!. Meijers, Wallmart, Kroger, Giant Eagle all carry it (Ohio)!. There is nothing quite like Hoisin so try to get it!.
If in a pinch, a good barbeque sauce mixed 50:50 with Plum sauce (but if you can find Plum you'll find Hoisin) with added dry mustard will work!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

oyster sause will work if you add some soy and molassess!.!. very little molassess!.!.!. you can also make a sause or marinad form the soysauce!.!.!. add some worstishire and pepper to the soy and a little rice wine and oilve oil!.!.!. i use olive oil but you can you use chili oil , or what ever you have !.!.!. go get 'emWww@FoodAQ@Com

It is a seafood sauce!.

It is readily available now, and if your market doesn't have it with the other sauces like soy, see if it is in the international section, or ask!.
