Buy cans of Pinto, cannelli and kidney beans (about 30p each) and make a huge pot of 3 bean chilli!. You also need a big onion, garlic, some veggie mince and some ground chilli, ground cumin, salt, pepper, paprika and tinned tomatoes!.

If there is only you it will last 3 days so serve with rice and tortilla chips one day, as a baked potato filling the next and pitta bread and lettuce/other salad the third day!.

There are four of us and we reckon this is the cheapest meal we cook!.

You can get lots of recipes from the internet by typing in 'three bean chilli recipe' so find one that suits you!. Some include fresh pepers but we dont bother as some of us dont like them!.

As a general point stock up on some seasonings and spices as and when you can afford them!. They have a long shelf life and can transform something very dull to something really exciting just by adding a teaspoon, especially something like Thai stir fry seasoning or some cajun spice!. The source below has lots!.

Cheap doesnt have to mean bland!

If you eat fish, then get a tin of tuna, some pasta and a packet sauce (that you make up with milk)!. Cook the pasta, make the sauce, stir the tuna in at the last minute, pasta in a dish and pour over the tuna/sauce mix!. A couple of slices of bread and butter to mop up with!.
Enjoy

I'm not a vegetarian so forgive me if there are hidden meaty bits!. But I love this little concoction!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

as a recently former undergrad (i just graduated), I have some experience with skimping:

-Grilled cheese sandwiches (bread, cheese and butter)
-plain yogurt mixed with sliced apples (with honey on top, if you like)
-pasta and pasta sauce (pre-made sauce is usually available in any grocery store)
-noodles (ramen)
-stir fry (basically you can stir fry anything: mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, garlic, other veggies; add in soy sauce and a bit of water) served with steamed rice and you're golden
-tortilla heated with cheese (and sliced mushrooms and/or green bell peppers, if you'd like)
-tempura! there are tempura mixes in most chain grocery stores now (like safeway and albertson's); all you need is a lot of veggie oil and some of the leftovers of any veggies that you've got left over from your other meals (potatoes, mushrooms, asparagus, bell peppers, ANYTHING will work)

hope this helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com
