I'm making hashbrown casserole and I don't have enough sour cream, what's a better substitute?!

Question: I'm making hashbrown casserole and I don't have enough sour cream, what's a better substitute!?
I'll use the sour cream I have, but since I don't have enough, should I use cottage cheese or cream cheese!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Use cream cheese rather than cottage cheese!.!.!.my hashbrown casserole only calls for a small container of sour cream plus 1 can of cream of mushroom soup!. If your recipe doesn't call for a can of soup maybe you could add one or two to give it a little more moisture!.
Or just put what you have in and make sure to add other ingredients for flavor!.!.!.then you may not even notice that there is not enough sour cream (shredded cheese, bacon bits, onions, etc)!.

Hope this helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I always make this with cream of celery soup, sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese!.However I always have to add less of the sour cream and more of the soup and cheddar cheese because my husband and sons don't like the taste of sour cream (and even though you really can't taste it they swear that they can!!)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Give the cottage cheese a spin in your blender until it is smooth!. This makes a perfectly acceptable substitute for sour cream!. Plain yogurt will also work!.

Although, depending on the recipe, cream cheese might be yummy!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Plain, unflavored yogurt is an excellent substitute for sour cream!. Lowfat or not, doesn't matter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
