Need a good crock pot recipe for string beans and ham?!

Question: Need a good crock pot recipe for string beans and ham!?
I have a large crock pot that I've really never used!.!.!. and I just picked a bunch of string beans from my garden!.!.!.
I'd like to try and make a ham and string bean type soup!.

I'm really new at this!.!.!. :) How long does the ham have to cook!? Would you use a ham bone or just cut up pieces of ham!?
Cook the string beans first, then add them near the end, or just put them in raw at the beginning!?

Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
If you have a ham bone, it would impart the most flavor!.

Start out w/ lots of water and the ham (bone) in the crockpot!. Set on high, lid on, and let the bone give up its juices into the water!. After 3 hours or so, remove bone, discard skin and bone, return meat pieces back to water!. Add yoru raw green beans!. Leave whole, just snap off the stem-end!.!.!. leave the littel pointy end, it's fine!. Add a chopped onion, too!. Cover, and let simmer on high for about 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally!. Taste for S&P, but you probably won't need much salt due to the ham!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you want ham in each bite, cut the ham in cube size pieces, if you just want the taste of ham, don't cut!. You want to add the bone

Take your ham and fry it until it is brown!. In your crock pot take the string beans, raw, the ham and cover with water or your favorite stock!. Dice a small onion and add as much as wanted!. You can also add new potatoes!. You put all these items in at once and add your seasoning of choice!. You put it on low and let it cook all day!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sugar Pie has the best recipe! The only thing I would do differently is to add some new potatoes to the pot towards the end of the cooking time!. New potatoes, string beans and ham! Can I come for dinner!? :) A nice cornbread would go great with that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

ham is already cooked!. just dice it up and put it in the crock with the washed beans!. cover with water!. cook on high for an hour then reduce and cook on low for 4 hours!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
