Let me explain - I want to make a cake and frost it with chocolate frosting!. But when my family cuts into it, I want the cake to be pink or blue to signify whether we are having a baby boy or girl!. I think it will be a cute surprise!. But will it work!? I'm not much of a chef!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes you can!. Either buy McCormick Neon colors which come in pink and blue or just use red coloring for pink and blue for blue!. Start out with 1 drop, mix it in, add one drop at a time until you get your desired color!.
You could also use pink or blue sprinkles in the batter!. After it is cooked, there will be pink or blue spots all over the cake!.
Either way you do it!.!.!.Cook the cake ; Let it cool ; Remove it from the pan ; Frost it with chocolate frosting [make sure to frost every visible spot {sides&top}
That is a very cute idea!.
Good Luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cute idea! I think this will work fine!. If you try food coloring, go with the paste kind that you would use for coloring icing!. (Wilton is a common brand) It is more concentrated, so you won't need as much and it won't change the flavor or consistency of the cake!. Just make sure you blend it well!.
I have also seen people add colored sprinkles to cake mixes and the sprinkles melt when baking and just leave "spots" of color behind!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Full of id, it certainly will work!. How do you think they get different color icings on pastries!? Just select the color from any food color liquid, mix with your cake batter (caution) don't add too much until you get the desired shade you want, and bake!. When the cake firms and cools then cover it with chocolate icing!. Perhaps a little different shade of chocolate; cocoa or dark and light choc!. That will add a touch of artistry to the mix!.

Yes you can!. You can add food coloring to almost anything!. My sister adds it to my nieces milk cause she will only drink it if its purple!. Don't ask!. And my mom used to make us colorful pancakes when we were younger!. Adding food coloring to food is fun and festive!. You can add it to sooo many things!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Oh thats a really cool idea!
Anyways food coloring works with everything (Purple mac and cheese FTW!)!. So just add some to the batter, like, a drop or two of red to make it pink, and just some blue to make it blue!. And bake it, then I guess cover it with frosting!.
It'll be nice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
