What can I substitute for basil for beef stew seasoning?!

Question: What can I substitute for basil for beef stew seasoning!?
Answers:
Rosemary, a bay leaf, or thyme!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

To be honest, I don't think basil is really necessary!. I have had it with pho (vietnamese beef noodle soup), but that is a very subtle, fresh soup!. Your spices seem to be very hardy!. Rosemary and thyme are my favorites for hearty beef soup or roast!.

When pho is served, fresh basil comes on the side!. If you want this "fresh" feel, and don't have basil, cilantro will certainly work!. If the recipe is calling for the basil at the start of the boil, I think they are off their rocker!. The basil flavor will cook out after 15-20 minutes!.

Conclusion: substitute thyme if the recipe calls for basil as a base spice!. Substitute fresh cilantro if the recipe calls for fresh basil at the very end!. OR leave it out entirely!. Your soup will be just fine without it:)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love basil and grow it in my garden , but in beef stew you could just leave it out!.

A pinch of thyme might enhance your recipe but thyme tastes more like oregano so if you are also adding oregano, I wouldn't add MORE thyme!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would up the Oregano just a little and skip the basilWww@FoodAQ@Com
