What does turmeric do in canning??!


Question: What does turmeric do in canning!?!?
Help, i'm new in canning and learning something every day!. I believe it makes vegetables yellow!? Is there a substitute for it, and do i actually need it!? There must be some "canners" out there!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Turmeric is also called "poor man's saffron", because it imparts a deep golden yellow colo, approaching orange, depending upon how much you use!. It ahs a nice flavor as well!. Depending upon what you're making, you could probably leave it out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That is correct, often used in curries!.
Some will say saffron but that is extremely expensive!.
If you don't mind the lack of colour, skip it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's just for colour and flavour like any other spice!. Not needed for the success of pickles!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
