as said before if it's jam it should be fine - provided it's not the low sugar type!. if it's jello - either animal based (gelatin) or vegetarian (agar) it shouldn't be used beyond it's date and if already made up keep only for a day or two!. agar is used in labs for growing bacteria - so has a very short life - even in the fridge!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
technically, jelly would not go off, bearing in mind that what you mean jelly is in fact a seedless jam (the brit/american vocabulary thing)!.
Jam is basically sugar and fruit!. Sugar acts as a preservative, and therefore the jam would not go off!.
for any of you that say that jam goes moldy, this is your own fault!. You have infected the jar (you used a dirty knife, or used the same knife as you did for the butter, or to cut the toast, etc!.) This is the only way mold can grow on jam!.
Personally, i won't keep anything in the fridge for over about 10mnths!. Jam, mustard, etc are things that already contain preservatives, and so can last in the fridge for ages, but i'm fussy, so i throw them out!.
Coming back to Jelly/Jam thing!. If you are in fact talking about Jelly (or Jell-O to americans) then it can go off!. The gelatin, if it is seaweed based should be okay, but if it's beef gelatin (that means it's a gelatin that's made by boiling up all the bones and hooves of cows!.!.!.that's right, gross right!?) then it's an animal byproduct and can make you sick if you eat it passed the sell by/best before date!.
All in all, your jam will not go off as long as you use a clean knife or spoon, and keep the lid on properly, and keep it in the fridgeWww@FoodAQ@Com

Only if it's a few days out!. Or just munch on it, as long as you kept it in a cool place!.
It's not a dairy product, so whatever!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
