Is it safe to defrost poultry in a microwave?!

Question: Is it safe to defrost poultry in a microwave!?
I have always been really cautious about chicken due the obvious salmonella, however for my dinner today i was meant to take out some chicken thighs from the freezer and thaw them out in my fridge, it will be to late now so do you think it will be safe to thaw them out in the mircowave, i know that once they cook it should kill off any bacteria but i was always told not to defrost chicken in a microwwave yet there is a poulty setting on it so surely it should be ok!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
you can do that but you need to watch it as well because if you let it defrost for alittle to long it will start to cook an then when you go to perpare the meat after it is done it will be dry an taste less but yes you can do that just watch it i defrost my meat in water of course it is wraped up but hot water in a sink an put it in there you dont want to use hot water all the time cause that will also cook the meat but it is okay if you do it just that once cause ur meat is cold so it would cool the water
