Can we use regular salt to make dill pickles instead of kosher-style salt If not what's the difference?!
Answers:
One reason you use pickling salt instead of regular salt is Pickling salt is 100% pure salt while regular salt has anti-caking agents and iodine!.
The anti-caking agents and iodine may discolor the pickles!. Not like they're going to turn pink or purple, but you'll see a slight difference!.
If you really don't care about the looks of the finished product, then regular salt is fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, but I highly recommend sea salt, particularly Sel de Mer!. I've made a bunch of batches of pickles with this and they come out great!.
I usually use a 3:2 water/white vinegar mix and a little less than 1/2 cup of salt per 12 cups of liquid!. Just boil it up and pour it into jars filled with cucumbers, dill, garlic, peppercorns, mustard seeds and a chopped up chili pepper!. Ready to eat in 3 days!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It will work but you will require LESS salt!. Kosher salt has less salt per volume than table salt because of it's much larger size and flaked shape vs!. grain shape!.
The conversions vary by brand of kosher salt but it varies from 1!.5 - 1 to 2 - 1 (meaning it takes between 1!.5 and 2 times the amount of kosher salt to equal table salt in weight)!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't suggest it!. As Dave said, regular salt has different ingredients in it that are not conducive to making pickles!. Kosher salt is best for that and if you soak the cucumbers in a pickling lime water bath for 24 hours they won't be as soggy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You can but the iodine in the regular salt will have an effect on the color!. The pickles will be darker and the brine may be cloudy if the salt is iodized!. They will still be perfectly fine to eat, though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
