Is it possible to make banana bavarian cream with my recipe and using banana rum as the flavoring?!
For my husband's birthday, I made a Banana cheesecake!. I would like to top it with a delicious banana bavarian cream!.
Here is my basic Bavarian cream recipe, how can I add banana flavor with either or both--banana rum and/or fresh bananas:
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups milk
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup heavy cream, whipped
Combine sugar, flour, cornstarch and salt!. Gradually stir in milk!.
On med-high heat (turning down to med, if necessary), cook and stir until mixture thickens and boils!.
Cook and stir 2-3 minute!.
Stir a little of the hot mixture into egg yolk!.
Stir egg mixture into the rest of the hot mixture and bring it just to boiling!.
STIRRING CONSTANTLY!.
Add vanilla!.
cover entire surface with plastic wrap or waxed paper!.
Cool!.
beat smooth!.
Fold in whipped cream!.

To me, banana never tastes right when it's cooked!. So, after you've made the custard and cooled it, add 1 ripe, pureed banana to the custard, then fold in the whipped cream!.
But since the cheese cake is already flavored with banana, I think approx 2 tablespoons of the banana rum or even just Myers dark rum would be good in the custard and will go well with the cheesecake!.

The rum could be added really anytime after cooking it, if you want to keep the rum kick!. (but probably best before adding the whipped cream)Www@FoodAQ@Com
