Creamy Alfredo Sauce

Well, others have pointed out the value of keeping rice, pasta, beans etc!. around!. (Polenta and couscous are particularly helpful; ramen is rather overrated, but if you know what you're doing it can be good!.) Lots of vegetables!. Pork shoulder can be pretty cheap if you can buy a lot of it at once; you can either roast or BBQ it and have a bunch of it sitting around for whatever purpose!. Chicken thighs and beef short ribs are also decently cheap!.

If you can swing it, grab a copy of Mark Bittman's How To Cook Everything Vegetarian -- it's pretty comprehensive, and anyone who might be facing poverty ought to learn some vegetarian cooking to save from having to eat Crème de Sept-Onze on a regular basis!. A cheap crockpot would be good too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
