For all you Pancake FLIPPERS out there....How in the world....?!
do you flip a pancake!? Ok, I know a crazy question here, but I found this recipe online for IHOP pancakes and they are so delicious, but I found that they don't flip as easily as the bisquick kind!. I actually had to use 'two' spatchulas!. One for the first flip because it was messy, and then a clean one to finish the job!. I tried just a pan without any grease in it, and then I tried with just a tad oil in it thinking it would help!. Neither one did!. So!.!.!.!.To all you pancake experts out there, is there a special spatchula to use!? Is there a certain technique!? May be I didn't use a big enough pan!?
What happened this morning was, when I poured the batter into the pan, and it was dry around the edges, (sure sign that it was time to flip), all the excess batter in the middle spilled out onto my spatchula when I tried to fip it, making the whole thing wrinkle, and not very cooperative!. LOL And it made my spatchula a mess!. That's why I had to use two!. I love to cook, but pancakes are one thing I haven't mastered yet!. That and omlettes!. Those are difficult for me too!.
Any tips!? Tricks!? Special utensils!? Thanks a bunch!Www@FoodAQ@Com

When I worked at Bob Evans, we had to make our pancakes no wider than the width of the spatula we were using to flip them!. If your spatula is not as wide as the pancake you are trying to flip, that could be trouble!. If you've got that, then here are three other tips I use:
1!. Just because the sides are bubbling, doesn't mean it's time to flip!. The sides should be a little dry, and you should see a bubble or two in the middle of the pancake as well!.
2!. Flip with your strong hand!. What that means is, if you are naturally right-handed, then don't try and flip with your left hand!.
3!. Take the spatula, and move it around the entire under side of the pancake before you attempt to flip it!. Make sure nothing is going to stick to the under side of the pan before you try to flip!. Once you are sure the pancake won't stick, then, in one motion, slide the spatula under the pancake and flip in the opposite direction of the hand you are flipping with (e!.g!. if you are right-handed, when you flip, turn the pancake to the left)!. pancake flipper
patience is needed
griddle of pan must be hot enough to sear set the batter on the bottom!.
little oil of butter in the pan
when the pancake batter starts to form bubbles it is time to flip!.
add few tsp of melted butter or oil to the batter and that will help as well

I've found that if you make sure the first side is fully cooked before you try to flip you won't have a problem with pancakes or omeletsWww@FoodAQ@Com
Well that sure is odd! I don't know for sure if it will help you!.!.!.but my fiance and I wound up buying a much wider spatula for pancakes and things like that!. It seems to do the trick, without completely destroying the pancake!. I sure hope it helps!.!.!.messy pancakes are no fun! :)
Edit: also, do you check to make sure the top of the pancake has begun to bubble!? That is another sign that they are ready to flip, and usually by then the middle is pretty solid!. If you feel the need to do so, maybe a larger pan would help too! Good luck! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
