Answers:
I can't speak for the profession of councilor!.!.!. however, I am a chef and I can tell you about that!. I don't quite know what you mean about it being a good decision to go to high school for 4 years!. The only only other option for high school is a GED!. My little brother got his GED when he was 15 and then enrolled in a community college!. When his friends were preparing to graduate from high school, my little brother was preparing to graduate from college with an associates degree!. A GED would be an option and then enroll in a community college with a culinary program!.

Chefs in California are well paid!. However, the cost of living is very high!. Chefs can make good money, depending on experience and schooling!. The high paying jobs are rare and hard to find!. Restaurants will not hire someone as a chef right out of culinary school!. The minimum requirements to become a chef are at least 5 years of cooking experience plus college!.

This is what I suggest!. When you turn 16, get an entry level postion working in a restaurant!. Entry level postions are: busperson, host/hostess, dishwasher, prepcook and pantry cook!. If you like it, then go to culinary shcool!.

If you can prove yourself as a prep cook or a pantry cook AND you have a postive attitude, you can apply for a promotion to a line cook!. Plan on working as line cook while you attend college!. When you graduate, you can start applying for jobs as a chef; provided that you are ready to run a kitchen and you have at least 5 years of line experience!. Sous Chef (assistant chef) would be another job that you would be qualified for!.

After culinary school (which is usually a two year associates degree) it would be a good idea to get a bacherlor's degree in restaurant and hotel management!. A master's degree in business management would also be extremely helpful in landing a top paying chef's job!. You would also be quailfied for postions such as: Banquet and Catering Manager, Food Service Director, Food and Beverage Manager, General Manager, etc!.!. All of these jobs pay well!.

Just a word of warning: working as a chef is not like what you see on TV!. It is very high stress and lots of hours!. Plan on working 50+ hours per week!. If you plan on having a family, don't expect to see them much!. You'll be working on your feet, cuts and burns will be common place!. You'll be working a lot of night shifts!. You'll have to be able to move quickly, make quick descions, be able to multi-task (all under pressure)!. Strong people skills and communications skills are a must!.

Good Luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

being a chef is very rewarding and eventually pays well!.

You will be working in a high stress environment
you will be on the lower pay scale until you have finished your training!.

cooking gives you the opportunity to travel, work for yourself and every day is different!.

It has many career branches also!.

writer, own your own company, travel ( working for resorts)
create something that is yours
teacher, work for corporations as a food director!.

I know that the culinary industry offers a great deal of opportunities

I enjoy my career and love what I do!.

I am 49 and have been doing this since 18!.

between now and then, get a job in any kind of food service that you can!. i don't care what it is, burger flipper, dietary aid at a hospital or nursing home, dish washer at a cafe or restaurant, anything to be in the business so you can see it from the inside!. The more you see how things work, the more informed decision you can make!. And some culinary schools want you to have worked in some sort of food service before entering school!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think you should become a chef!. Then when you have a romantic evening or nice Friday night to yourself you'll cook up a heck of a meal!. And I don't really know how much they make sorry!.
