chickpeas are beans!.!. and its an excellent source of B vitamins, fiber, folic acid (good for developing brains in fetuses), protein for vegetarians!.
its not fattening if you dont add bad oils to it!.!.
I use olive oil and fresh tahini in mine!.!.!.
its origin is in the middle east/mediteranean area!.!.!.
there is another similar dish called foul madames which is pureed fava beans!.!. it has cumin, olive oil, tahini, and lemon in it!.!. served hot or warm as similar to hummus!.!. its a traditional egyptian dish!.!. but served all over the middle east!.!. (its a great ramadan recipe ie: the Islamic fasting month soon to start in September, we eat hummus and foul medames for a break fast meal ) Www@FoodAQ@Com
