You'll need a suitable oven proof dish!. Set the oven to a medium hot heat, 180C or round about that and put a shelf low enough down so the pudding cooks in the centre of the oven not too near the top!.
Peel and core the apples, and taste a little bit to estimate how much you'll need to sweeten it!. If it's very sour then add about a tablespoonful of sugar per apple!. If less sour then use a smaller spoon to measure the sugar!. Sweet apples such as Cox's don't need any sugar at all and cook very well!. You don't have to cook with sour 'cooking' apples!.It's nice to try brown sugar or an alternative flavour such as golden syrup or maple syrup too to ring the changes!.
I like to toss the chopped apple pieces in a mixture of flour, cinnamon and mixed spice (about a tablespoon of flour to half a teaspoon of each spice) before putting them in the dish!. The flour makes a nice sauce with the apple juices when it's all cooked together!.
That's the apples sorted then!
Now for the topping!.!.!.!.
If you have a food processor you can bung in all the ingredients and blitz together!. Otherwise it'll take a bit longer to assemble by hand!.
Assuming you used about a pound (half a kilo) of fruit then you'll need the following quantities!.
Mix 6 oz flour (plain or self raising, brown or white) with 3 oz butter or alternative (e!.g!. margarine) and rub together until it looks like breadcrumbs!. Stir in 2 oz sugar!.
That's the basic!. Then you could add in other ingredients again to ring the changes and make life more interesting!.
For example you could add in a large spoonful of rolled oats (porridge oats) or crushed hazelnuts, walnuts or flaked almonds, or tiny pieces of crystallised ginger, or you could just leave it plain after all!.
Sprinkle the crumble topping thickly and evenly over the fruit in the dish and press it down lightly!. Smooth the top!.
Bake it in the oven for about 45 minutes to an hour, but don't let the top burn!. If you have nuts in the topping you might need to lay a sheet of foil over the top about half way through the cooking time to stop them from burning!.
This is delicious served hot with chilled single cream or a traditional warm custard sauce!. It can be a little bit different each time you make it and with some imagination you could make it your signature pudding!

If you've got a pile of apples but not enough time to bake a pie, or if you're short on flour, sugar, or fat (like butter or lard), then this is the recipe for you, even if you have never tried cooking it before! An apple crumble will take less time and ingredients to prepare than an apple pie, but it's just as delicious and comforting!.
Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Oven Temperature: 150°C or 300°F
Ingredients
*
6 Granny Smith apples
*
250g (9 oz or 2 cups + 1 tsp) white sugar
*
200g (7 oz or 1!.5 cup) plain white flour
*
150g (5!.5 oz or 5 Tbsp) butter
*
1 clove or cinnamon stick
*
Cream or vanilla ice cream
Steps

Peel the apples!. Peel and core the apples and roughly dice them into chunks!.
2!.
Cook the apples!. Put the apple chunks into a pan; add three quarters of the sugar and the cinnamon stick or clove; and cover with the lid!.
3!.
Stew the apples!. Allow to stew gently for half an hour, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon!. Keep checking as they can easily burn at the beginning!.
4!.
Check the apples!. Check that the fruit is cooked by mashing it a bit with the wooden spoon!. The apples should be soft but not puréed!.
5!.
Allow to cool!. Put the apples into the serving dish and allow to cool!.
6!.
Make the crumble topping!. Mix the white flour, remaining sugar and the butter with your fingers in a bowl until it takes on a breadcrumb consistency!.
7!.
Preheat the oven!. Set the temperature of the oven to 150oC (300oF/ gas mark 2)!.
8!.
Add the crumble topping!. Cover the stewed apples with the crumble topping, without pressing down!.

My Mom used to make what she called "apple crisp" in a jiffy!. Just cup up the apples into a casserole dish and sprinkle them with a little bit of cinnamon and sugar and stir them up!. If you want some thickness, you can add a little bit of tapioca or minute rice, too!.
Then combine some butter or margarine, brown sugar and cinnamon in a seperate dish and pop it in the microwave to melt!. Then stir in some oatmeal and spread on top of the apples!. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 30 minutes or until apples are tender and the top is brown and crispy!. It's really good!Www@FoodAQ@Com

stew your peeled and cored apples with a drop of water and sugar!. I would tend to add in a few rasins and a pinch of cinimond or mixed spice!. While this is stewing in a bowl rub toghter some flour and butter until it looks like fine breadcrumbs then add in some sugar castor or granary are both fine!. Put apples in bottom of pan then crumb on top!. Really quick and easy to make!. Quick tip, you can use all different fruit ive used pineapple and banana before!!
Enjoy!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

make it from scratch!. You just need to mix some flour with sugar, and then rub in butter until it looks like breadcrumbs!. You might be best off stewing the apples for a bit with some sugar before adding the crumble and putting it in the oven!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
