Answers:
Don't listen to hypertrophic!. Beef jerky *IS* cooked! It's cooked at a very low temperature for a very long time, thus it dries out and becomes jerky!. It's easiest to make it in an electric food dehydrator, but you can still make it even if you don't have one!.

Here's a recipe for jerky in the oven:
* 1 1/2 pounds beef round steak
* 1/3 cup soy sauce
* 1/4 cup brown sugar
* 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* 1/2 teaspoon onion salt
* 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
* 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Directions:
1!. Trim and discard all fat from meat!. Cut meat into 5-in!. x 1/2-in!. strips!. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the remaining ingredients; add meat!. Seal bag and toss to coat!. Refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight!.
2!. Place wire racks on foil-lined baking sheets!. Drain and discard marinade!. Place meat strips 1/4 in!. apart on racks!. Bake, uncovered, at 200 degrees F for 2-3 hours or until meat is dry and leathery!. Remove from the oven; cool completely!. Refrigerate or freeze in an airtight container!.

If you like teriyaki flavored jerky, just substitute teriyaki sauce for the soy sauce!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it's easiest with a food dehydrator!.
You have to cut the beef very thin, then marinate it in a mix of soy sauce and spices!.
Spices I like to use are: garlic, brown sugar, onion powder, and black pepper!. Pick your own spices to suit your own tastes!.

You don't cook the beef, BTW, Beef jerky is raw beef!. Yep, most folks don't know that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I made it before like this: Slice the meat how you like it thin or thicker, marinate in teriyaki, Clean your oven racks really good, put foil in the bottom of the oven, Hang slices over the bars on the racks and close the door, the pilot light in the oven will dry it out overnight if I remember correctly!. Anyway, it was GREAT!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Jupiter is right - it can be cooked in the oven at 200 degrees!. I recently inadvertently made beef jerky in my crock pot when I was making baby back ribs!. I don't know why they dried out this time!. I'll bet you could make it in a crock pot somehow!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need a food dehydrator first off!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
