My family won't eat anything having to do with fish. What can I substitute for fish sauce in a recipe?!
Answers:
try using vegetarian oyster sauce!. it's made from mushrooms and is available at stores like whole foods or other grocers with a specialty foods section!. the flavor may be slightly different but it will still lend richness to your dish!.
FYI, there is also a mushroom-based worcestershire sauce!. it's organic and delicious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with the answerer who said oyster sauce, as it has a seafood flavor, without the fish!. Although I myself hate oyster sauce!.
Although if your family doesn't like fish, they may not like oyster sauce either!. You could go sweet with the plum sauce, or salty with the soy sauce, or try one of the vegetarian sauces recommended by the food scientist!.
You might just try leaving it out and adding a few more of whatever spices are called for in the recipe and a little more liquid!.

get the fish sauce and use it without telling them!. I know that sounds mean, but nothing really is a substitute for fish sauce!. Dont worry the meal will not taste like big fish when your done, think of fish sauce as just another seasoning or spice that just adds flavor to a dish!. If after you make the dish and your family enjoys it, then you can either tell them what is in it, or not say a word, your choice!.

Unless they are allergic, use the fish sauce and don't tell them!. Fish sauce does not taste fishy once in a sauce, at all!.
Otherwise, it is just a salt element, essentially!. Add a touch more salt or light soy sauce!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
