Answers:
I am "allergic" to shrimp!. But the truth is that sometimes I can eat it and sometimes I can't!. I am beginning to think that it is the preparation that is the problem!.

When I first found out about my allergy I was peeling shrimp and scratched my thumb with the shell!. My thumb swelled up twice normal size!.

Then I ate boiled shrimp (years later) and my throat and lips swelled!.

Thing is, sometimes I have eaten other fish and the same thing happens and I have eaten shrimp prepared in other ways (CAN't RESIST) and NOTHING happened!.

Dont know the answer and haven't found a doctor smart enough to figure out what to test me for!. I suspect the true culprit is the iodine in the shrimp!. I suspect the iodine may be present in higher amounts in boiled and raw shrimp than in shrimp that is prepared at higher temps!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

ME! Although, I'm not any more!.

I used to get GI reactions!. The allergy lasted for about 15 years!. Then my husband talked me into trying shrimp again - he had an epi pen, and antihistamine on hand, 911 pre dialed on the cell too!.

Luckily I was fine, and now I can eat it with no problems!.

I guess I just grew out of it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've had a reaction to lobster before!. I was lucky enough to have been given 6 lobster tails!. We cooked them all - so of course we had to eat them!. After enjoying 2 (6oz!?) tails, actually about an hour later my back started itching!. I had broken out in a pretty good rash!. Benedryl knocked it out though!. I haven't had the pleasure of eating that much lobster since and a normal serving doesn't effect me at all!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My husband loves shell fish, but his throat closes up when he eats it!. Years ago he used to drink margaritas with it; he said it helped counteract the effect!. I finally convinced him eating it could kill him!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
