How many cups do you get when you brown 1.25 lbs of raw ground beef?!

Question: How many cups do you get when you brown 1!.25 lbs of raw ground beef!?
Answers:
You can't convert weight to volume!. Trying to convert pounds to cups is the same thing as trying to convert inches into hours or teaspoon into minutes; it just doesn't work!.

The morons who invented the English system gave the same unit name (ounces) to both volume and weight!. These "ounces" are not the same and they are not interchangeable!. A lot of people will tell you there are 8 ounces in a cup and 16 ounces in a pound, so there must be 2 cups in a pound!. If this were true, then 2 cups of lead pellets and 2 cups of feathers would both weigh 1 pound!. This just is not the case!. The REAL conversion is this:

8 fl!. oz = 1 cup
16 oz = 1 pound

The only way to figure out this problem is to look at a chart of how much a cup of some ingredient weighs!. These are approximations only and not true conversions!. This is because density varies in ingredients!. For example, a cup of flour will sometimes weigh more in the winter due to humidity in the air!. A pint of water will vary in weight depending on the water's temperature!.

I just looked online!. I couldn't find a chart that gave the volume/weight apporximations for cooked/raw beef!. http://www!.gourmetsleuth!.com is usually pretty good, but didn't have what you need!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it will vary depending on the fat content and other elements in the cooking process!.

What causes ground beef patties to shrink while cooking!?
All meat will shrink in size and weight during cooking!. The amount of shrinkage will depend on its fat and moisture content, the temperature at which the meat is cooked, and how long it is cooked!. Basically, the higher the cooking temperature, the greater the shrinkage!. Cooking ground beef at moderate temperatures will reduce shrinkage and help retain juices and flavor!. Overcooking draws out more fat and juices from ground beef, resulting in a dry, less tasty product!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Around 2 cups depending on the fat content!. 93% lean meat will yield more than 80% lean meat because of the fat that renders when cooked!.

1pound= 16 ounces, 16 ounces= 2cups

I allowed that the !.25 lbs would end up as fat and won't count in your total yield!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Meat is usually measured before cooking when used in a recipe!. But, if you must, approximate measurements are allowed!. Cooking is an art!.!.!.not a science!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
