What did you have for Sunday lunch?!
Sundays are special in my household!. I always try to make a nice spread for my family and we all sit at the dining room table and share the meal time together!.
I made a glazed gammon ham, rice, roast potatoes, cabbage au gratin, pumpkin, peas and stuffed green peppers for the main meal with a classic dumpling on the side, two salads and for afters Crepe Suzette's!.
Do you still have these old-timer family values or do you all just go your own ways on Sundays!?

WOW!. what a nice fare Granny! I am sure your home is quite popular with such appeasing dishes !.!.!. where do you live!?!?!?
I LOVE this question!!! Even though I was born in 1967, and my parents were young hippies, my mother's roots instilled the need and/or importance of "family" time on Sundays!. My mother is one of the most amazing cooks I've ever known, made sure all her children (3 girls) knew the ins'n'outs of cooking/kitchen, and my father is also one hell of a cook!.
Tradition has followed through, and us girls cook, bake, and are in turn teaching our children!. Kids love the kitchen, and are amazing! My 6 yr!. old daughter has been using a small Chicago Cutterly paring knive since she was probably 2-1/2 or 3, knows spices by smell and sight, and now just wants to crack an egg with one hand ~ they're just still a little small for that, which she will not accept!. My sons are also in there (my 17 yr!. old much less now)!. It is just the warmest feeling a mother could have to know that at a minimum they can cook for themselves, and rather well I might add ;)
So, yes, cooking is big in our home, and Sunday's or Saturday's when need be, are important meals (I usually spend 1-1/2 to 3 hours a night cooking for my family week long)!. We are huge Mexican foodies, but they also love slow-cooked ribs, ham, etc!.
Today was my youngest son's 3rd birthday, and I made enough to feed company, but did not go overboard, as there was ice cream and cake to follow!. We had shredded beef burittos, with the usual fixins!. However, my burrito filling takes hours to prepare!. It includes a beef roast, slowly simmered in my green chili sauce made the day before, shredded, then pintos and black beans are added into the shredded meat into a fresh batch of green chili base, as well as rice, and loads of roasted/peeled garden green chilis!. Served in tortillas with sour cream, garden tomatoes, lettuce, mix of Mexican cheeses, with avadados on the side!.
A common Sunday dinner would be slow roasted marinated pork ribs, twice baked potatoes, beans/onions/bacon baked in the oven; ham and same type of potatoes/veggie dish; Mexian dish; or Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, and green been bake, etc!. Weekend's in my family are supposed to be a special time together as well!
We live states away from any family, so it is doubly important that we follow-through, as well as invite others!. Thanks again !.!.!. easy answer ;) This tradition is not common amongst many that I know, and it's sad! They always talk about us, muchless the "teen" boys all flock here for home cookin!.
I hope that this older tradition will once again define "Sunday family time", as it is more needed now than ever!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't have a family yet unfortunately but when I do we will do something special after church
My mom would always make
Pot Roast w/ veggies and she would make a homemade pie
or
Fried Chicken, mashed potato's and peas(they were my favorite) and a homemade pie
Cherry Pie mostly because it is my sister's favorite but sometimes she made this pudding thing w/ pecan crust/ cream cheese and whip cream topping
We went to church on Sunday nights and Wednesday as well so she would make a special dinner on Wednesday that was usually Spaghetti or Taco night
Sunday nights if it was cold she would make vegetable beef stew w/ grated cheese
or
we would have breakfast for dinner ~ pancakes, bacon, and sunny side eggs
but if we had a really big lunch she just made cheese, pickles, and apples for dinner Www@FoodAQ@Com

I usually dont make a big lunch!. Sometimes I will make a really special dinner!. But yesterday we had a family over so we could all play ping-pong so we had hotdogs, chips, and cole slaw!. They brought the dessert, doughnuts and turtle pie!. We had a great time!. Wouldve had them over for dinner so I couldve made something more special but they lived far away and I gave them the option of coming for lunch to save money on gas!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
