I've always kept glass bowls of salad greens and cut-up fruit in the refrigerator; and we have these with every meal!. In addition, I try to keep at least 2 of the following in there at all times: coleslaw, bean salad, Greek salad, pasta salad, cucumber salad, etc!. That way I always have side dishes to pull out to serve with meat (and it's easy to fix a lunch at home)!. !.!.!. I alternate beef, chicken, pork & fish - so that we don't have anything twice in a row!. Even if I'm converting leftovers, I skip a day !.!.!.!. Freeze the water from steamed vegetables, and make soup with it the night before you go grocery shopping!. Throw all of your left-over veggies from the week into it:)!.!.!.!.!. One thing that I used to make for my daughters for breakfast was to layer fruit yogurt & granola (about 3 layers each) in parfait glasses and refrigerate overnight!. They could just grab one to eat in the morning!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I don't know how much this helps, but in my family meal plan I try accommodate for one member of the family's favourite each week!. So that takes care of the picky eaters!. I also make the most of left overs turning left over roast chicken into chicken curry - bulked out with loads of fresh veg!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Make sure you plan menus to use up perishables before they go bad!. Currently the average household throws away more than a pound of food each day, or 470 pounds a year!.
