Do canned potatoes need to be cooked if adding to soup or are they already?!
Do canned potatoes need to be cooked if adding to soup or are they already!? They seem a bit on the softer side, but not sure if they are cooked or just saturated with water!. I'd like diced potato in a soup!. also regarding soup- I make vegetarian vegetable soup!. I'd like the veg stock/broth it to be slightly thicker even after the addition of all the veggies!. Would corn starch do this!? Or would that cloud the soup and ruin it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

The canned potatoes are already cooked!. Corn starch will not cloud it !.!.make sure that you mix it with some broth or water of course first!. It is flour that clouds things!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
They're already cooked!. Corn starch works well but be sure and dissolve it in water before you add it to your soup!. I do this by putting about 1/4 cup of starch in a bowl, then slowly add water, while stiring with a whisk or fork until it's completely dissolved!. Otherwise it is very likely to form lumps that you can't get rid of!. also, it will not really thicken until it is heated so add it sparingly until you get the desired thickness!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
rinse well, and add!.
To thicken your soup, just keep it simmering, it will reduce and the addition of the potatoes, I'm assuming, will be all the starch you need!.
Cornstarch will not cloud it, if you cook it long enough!.
Simmering is preferable!.!.!.if you have the time, just let it cook away without the lid for a while!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't use canned potatoes!. Use new baby potatoes!. They taste 1000 times better!.
also, flour and corn starch will thicken, but cloud your soup/sauces!. If you want a much clearer product use arrowroot!. It's located with the spices!. It's a white powder that is about $6!.00 for a small jar!. It thickens much better than cornstarch or flour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
