Actually, the safest way is to soften cream cheese in the microwave oven!. Letting it sit outside of refrigeration can be dangerous from a food safety perspective!. This works just as well, and you don't have to plan ahead before making your dip!.

Place the completely unwrapped package of cream cheese in microwaveable bowl!. Microwave on HIGH 10 sec!. or just until softened!. Add 15 sec!. for each additional package of cream cheese!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Either let it sit out in a bowl until it softens or set it on warm in the microwave, but be careful doing it that way because it can begin to melt!. We let it sit in a bowl unwrapped while we were working with other ingredients that we were using!.
