Should Rachel Ray get a culinary arts degree?!

Question: Should Rachel Ray get a culinary arts degree!?
The woman is energetic and very bright!. I just can't take her seriously though, bc she has no formal training!. What do you think!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I agree!.!.!. she's just someone who just has a personality that people like!. She's not a chef!. She doesn't even own a restaurant!.

I would bet that she doesn't even develop her own recipes!.!.!. the chefs behinds the scenes at FN work on the dishes and she just presents them in front of the camera!.!.!.!. which is ironic since she's the one receiving bank for recipes that aren't even hers!.

With that said!.!.!. people do like her and she apparently makes people happy about cooking!.

I think she diminishes the hardwork and knowledge that chefs like Emeril, Flay, Giada, Batali, Tsai!.!.!. etc!.!.!. have gained by actually working in the field!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Who says you need formal training to make good food!?
Cooking isn't rocket science!.

Ina Garten and Nigella Lawson, and even Alton Brown have no formal training, and I find their recipes to be trustworthy and outright delicious!.

Giada De Laurentis studied at Le Cordon Bleu!. You can tell by her show and her recipes that she didn't learn a damned thing except the pretentious attitude!. Her "Italian" recipies are about as authentic as a $7 bill!.

My BF's daughter graduated from the CIA, and she LOVES Rachael's recipes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a former chef and like Nigella Lawson, the southern broad and some others they got there shows on the personality's, not the ability's!.

Now Nigella was a food writer and cookbook author before she start prancing around with her show, Rachael Ray is one of these people that everyone enjoys and thinks is cute and bubbly, some one said afew weeks ago she considers her self a cook not a chef, as she has no formal training, some people feel it is not necessary and forgoe it for some reason, that is why she will not were a chefs coat also!.

I agree with my friend "Dave C" but she has so much money now she could buy the Food Network 3 times over and have it in her own name there to!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

So, let's say you had a person that knew how to repair cars and repair them correctly without any problems, because they didn't have any "formal training" in car repair, you wouldn't take them seriously!? You sound very snobbish!. What she does is give everyday people who don't have time to fix fancy dishes the methods to fix great meals quickly and inexpensively!. I would rather have her food over Emeril's any day!. And I just bet that if you would ask any of the other "real chefs", they would say the have great admiration and respect for her!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why in the world would she need a degree!? To cook! She cooks fine and she does not try to represent herself as a chef!. She creates recipes for everyday people and situations!. My mom didn't get a degree, but she had a chef ask her several times for the recipes she made for a dinner!.

Culinary arts is very distinguished but if all you are doing is cooking everyday stuff for family and friends, you don't need a degree!.
Www@FoodAQ@Com

No - I don't think she should go to get a formal degree!? What does it mean!? That she paid someone to teach her how to cook!? She can do that already!.

According to Forbes, she gets "$1!.5 million per month"!. also, there are other chefs out there who don't have formal training, yet people take more seriously!.

"Mario Batali is one of the very few professional chefs who does not have formal education in cooking!. He majored in theatre and economics in college, which he flunked in!. Having no related experience confined him to a job as a dishwasher but he never gave up!. Soon, he was promoted as a pizza man, and before he knew it, he was one of the highest paid young chefs in his company!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

I get your point, and I don't see why she shouldn't go all the way with her cullinary arts degree, however, I also understand that food network is using her lack of formal training as a appeal point, they want her to be accessable to people!. She is also probably Wayyyy busy!. I don't take her too seriously either but I respect her work and the oppertunity she has been given!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have found that most people who have been "taught" how to cook it a school are very snobby and over sure of themselves!. And just cuz you go to culinary school doesn't mean that they will teach you to cook well!.

Rachel does just fine!. She is self taught and she does really well!. I take her more seriously because she doesn't have a chip on her shoulder!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think her recipes are amazing!. I love to cook and have used a lot of her recipes, and they always turn out wonderfully!. It doesn't matter to me that she has no formal training!. She's very talented and good at what she does!. The fact that she knows what she's doing is good enough for me; I don't really care HOW she knows, just that she knows!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's pretty shallow minded, don't you think!? She knows what she is doing-why does she have to have a piece of paper to back it up!? I have a friend who is a neurosurgeon-BUT she can't cook a can of soup without burning it!. Education is all relative!. Life experience speaks volumes more than a college degree!. I will take someone with some "street smarts" over a diploma any day!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think she knows plenty for what average people are looking for!. Average people don't want the technical language for cooking, they just want simple recipes that taste good to cook, simple as that! She has great recipes which she knows are easy for the everyday working person and I know that's what most people want!Www@FoodAQ@Com

She's found a way to make money doing something she loves!. I can't really blame her for that!. In addition, she's worked hard to get where she is today!. According to her bio, she used to drive long distances, with her car full of pots and pans, to do cooking demos!. Experience can be a good education, too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no !.!.!.!.she has no need to she is already wonderful with out it !.!.!.plus like me i know how to cook but im going to culinary school and if i had the chance to do wut she do with out a degree then i would!.!.!.!. i would only say yea if should wanted to for her own reasons Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nope! I think because she does not have degree it makes it easier to learn from her!. It is less intimidating to learn from her!. Her recipes are easy for the home cook to use!. If you don't like her and can't take her seriously what are you watching her!?!?!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

I like the fact that she is self taught and is more of a real "cook," not a "chef!." Plus, she has her own show, her own line of foods and dog foods, etc!. There's really no point in going back to school!. Don't ya think!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think formal training necessarily means anything!. There are many accomplished chefs who are self taught!. That being said, I think Rachel Ray is irritating and it's getting old to see her face every time I turn to the food network!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love that she is so down to earth and the things that she cooks and the way she cooks them are so the way I cook in my kitchen!. Don't change Rachel Ray!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think so because she obviously knows whats she is talking about even though she has not had any formal training!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Is she friends of Orpha Whinfry!? If so, she doesn't need a degree!.!.!.!. Orpha Whinfry has no degree either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think she's annoying either way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
