How do you substitute 1/2 cup of butter for a 1/2 of margarine?!
My mom bought this brownie mix from Fresh n' Easy and it calls for a few things like water and eggs and a 1/2 cup of butter!. I don't have any butter and I don't feel like walking to the store to get some, either!.
I do have margarine!. Will 1/2 of margarine be an apt substitute for butter!? Or even applesauce perhaps (Mom uses applesauce as a substitute for vegetable oil in certain cake recipes)!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Instead of using 1/2c butter, just use 1/2c margarine!. Margarine is a great substitute for butter or vegetable oil!.
No, applesauce is not a good substitute!. Heck, it's not even a very good substitute for vegetable oil!. You need certain oils in your diet and applesauce doesn't have the oils needed!.

Yes, butter and margarine are interchangeable in recipes in equal amounts - some may say that you will sacrifice a little bit of taste by using margarine, but in general, they are equivalent!. I have also used an equal amount of vegetable oil or applesauce, although those will change the finished product, the taste and texture is usually still acceptable and some may even prefer it!. Applesauce tends to make the brownies have a lighter, more cake-like texture rather than a thick, fudgey texture!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Not all margarine is the same! For a 1 to 1 substitution, it must be labled as 70%, anything less will be watery and break down!. Tub and whipped margarines do NOT work!.
Using applesauce in brownies does work- the brownies taste "funny" and get soggy after a few days!. Why not make them so you'll be satisfied with the best results!?
I have sometimes left out the marjarine and the results were fine!. Make sure to liberally grease the baking pan!. Dark baking pans give better results than shiny aluminum ones!.
Enjoy
For extra kick- add chopped walnuts!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your Margarine will do just fine!. You could use oil or your apple sauce too!. I make these little changes all the time without any problems!.
Another of my favorite changes is to use Milk instead of water and to use butter instead of oil in any cake mix!. I swear that it will taste like you made it from scratch!.
Enjoy those brownies!.

Who can afford butter right now anyway just throw it in there with a dash of salt!. But seriously that's all I do anyway!. Mac and Cheese definately tastes better with butter but all I ever use is magarine, skim milk and a little salt [and two cut up hot dogs]!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's a one to one substitution!. So 1/2 cup of butter is the same as 1/2 cup of margarine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Instead of using 1/2 cup of magarine use 1/2 cup of butter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You can substitute margarine, as long as it isn't whipped margarine in a tub!.!.!.!.!. otherwise, use oilWww@FoodAQ@Com
I would use the applesauce over the margarine since margarine tastes different than butter when baked!. Good Luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
yes same as it amount but not the same flavor darling butter is so much better and give the brownies even a better taste if used but margarine will work tooWww@FoodAQ@Com
