How to burn a cast-iron pot for making good gravies?!


Question: How to burn a cast-iron pot for making good gravies!?
I have one of those LODGE cast-iron pots and I tried cooking in it to make a gravy but u can taste the "iron" taste in it and it wasn't good! Plus someone told me that i'm supposed to BURN it, whatever that means!! How do you do it in the oven!?!? Thanks!!Www@FoodAQ@Com


Answers:
You don't burn it, you season it!. Wash with hot water and soap!. NOTE: that is the last time you should ever use soap on it!. Dry it thoroughly, and coat the inside with a light coating of cooking oil!. Peanut oil is very good!. Put it in a 325 to 350 F oven and "season" for and hour or so!. Remove, rinse out the oil, and re-coat with some new oil!. Repeat the process!. Rinse it out, very lightly re-coat with oil, and store it!. That's it!.

i never used a cast iron skillet to make gravies!. To each his own!. Just use a regular pot!. 1 oz butter 1oz flour and 8 oz stock cook until thickens and strain!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
