How long does uncooked squash keep?!

Question: How long does uncooked squash keep!?
Answers:
Any type of winter squash- acorn, butternut, pumpkin, etc!. will keep all winter long if you have a cool dry cellar to store them in!. I do not have this option and mine still stores for up to a couple of months!. You can freeze any type of squash, just cook it and slide it into a freezer bag, pretty simple and then you don't have to worry about it spoiling!

Summer squashes- zucchini, yellow summer squash, etc keep for a couple of weeks at the most, but again you can freeze this too!. Cut it up as preferenced, blanch in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, drain and freeze!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Uncooked squash has a shelf-life of about a week, The squash will turn soft and then you cannot eat it!. Squash will develop a very strong taste If left uncooked for a longer period of time!. If you have squash that has been in the refrigerator for several weeks and then you cook it you notice a very strong taste!. That is why most people pick the baby squash , or the smaller squash and cook them fresh!. There is a freshness to young, smaller squash that is Delicious!. Squash that has been picked and let set for two weeks will be strong and somewhat bitter because the enzymes are starting to break down !. Squash can also become pithy and spongy from a long shelf life!. Yellow is about a week, other varieties have a longer shelf life but be careful because they can become bitter!.
As a general rule, Try and eat your squash within a week of picking or buying in the market!.
Next time you get a chance, try smaller squash that was just picked and see if you can taste the freshness!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
