Answers:
Yes! It can go bad!. If it smells bad it is BAD!. Rancid is a term used to describe oil and oil products that have gone "bad!." Throw it out and buy the smallest amount you think you will use in 4 to 6 months!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

is it crystallized or still smooth what is the color if it is a funny shade or crystallizing I would not use it!. I don't think I would use it if it smells bad!. perhaps something happened in the packaging process and there is something in there that is not supposed to be!. I have never had mine smell bad!. I say don't chance it!. If you have to grease a pan right away use butter or something!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

CRISCO:

Yes it does!. Check the expiration date on the container, they began putting expirations dates on all the Shortening products in late 2006 early 2005!.

It is only good for one year!. I would not use it if it has a smell to it because Crisco usually has little or no smell!.

Buy Crisco in the 1-cup/3-stick packs (20-oz) and freeze until needed!. This should prolong the shelf life a little - and you're not opening more than 1-cup at a time!.

hope this helps!. good luck and enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No!. I had the same thing happen to me, I used it anyways and the food tasted nasty!. I bought the crisco sticks!. They come in a four pack with each in a separate plastic container so you only have a small one open at a time!. But for now - don't use the smelly container - no good will come of it!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah Crisco Shortening can go bad!. If it smells bad don't use it because it might make you sick!. The Crisco sprays should usually last though because my mom uses it to spray pans and cookie sheets also!. I'd throw the icky one out and go and buy a new one!.
Hope I helped!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sorry to say it's gone rancid!. I wouldn't use it!.

You could grease the pan with butter or a small amount of vegetable oil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
