Please help! Huge problem with cooking crab! had black gunk before and after cooking and smells like ammonia!?!

Question: Please help! Huge problem with cooking crab! had black gunk before and after cooking and smells like ammonia!!?
I bought one of those big orange crabs for costco/sam's club and i steamed it for about 12 minutes!. when i opened it up, instead of finding that green/orange/yellow eggy stuff in the head, i just found black gunk!! and it smelt soooo strong, like ammonia and some other chemicals!. after breaking the legs and pulling out the meat, you could smell the same thing!. it's so strong that it burnt my nostrils and made me dizzy!.

at first i thought i just overcooked it, but my mom said she didn't think so cuz it has a shell and all!. anyway, what does this mean!? i already ate some and it tastes so strange!. should i return it to costco!? is something wrong with the crab!?please help, i'm really scared that i might get sick!.

one last thing too!.!.!.!.before i cooked it, i broke off a leg and saw the same black gunk!.!.!.which is another reason why i don't think i just burnt it!. thank you so much!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
That ammonia smell and black gunk means the crab is old!. Like how an old boar smells musky when they butcher it for bacon!.

Refrigerate the rest of it and return it!. If you don't eat anymore you should be fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
