Do what I do - cheat!.
Look on the site below for the Curry kits!. There is about 19 of them (although some are not Indian - like Thai curries)!.
They mainly cost £1!.99 which is what you would pay for a quality cook-in-sauce BUT they give you the real spices in packets, a foolproof recipe and tell you exactly what else you need to buy (also listed onthe website)
They claim that anyone can produce restaurant standard meals as a result and I would actually agree - these are nothing like a ready meal or cook in gloop and we regularly use them for entertaining!.
The reason they are so good is that Indian spices have to be treated right to get the flavour!. So some you fry at the start of cooking so they release their flavour, others need to steep in liquid, and some you add at the end or they lose flavour if added too soon!.
My favourite is the Coriander Chicken with Bombay potatoes because I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to the hot stuff!Www@FoodAQ@Com

the easiest way is to find a market that carries indian sauces!. You can buy the sauces in jars and you just cook your meat, simmer in the sauce and serve with rice!.
If you want to make your own sauces I suggest that you visit the spice isle at the grocery and look for different curry powders - you will find blends like red curry - great for beef and tomato or yellow curries - great for chicken!.
for an easy curry (servs 2)
chop 3-4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs into bite size pieces!.
rough chop 1 onion
heat 1T oil in a skillet add chicken and onion!. Cook until the chicken is done!.
Add curry powder to taste!.!. I like mine med-hot and would use 2-3 teaspoons!.!.!. but you have to judge it!.
lower the heat!.
put 2 cups of yogurt in a mixing bowl and wisk - this is critically important!. If you dont whisk it it will seperate and be nasty!
after wisking the yogurt add it to the chicken and onions - serve it with basmati rice!

Recipe books are a waste, especially for Indian food, so many ingredients you'd be exhausted by the time you're done cooking!.
Try a local Indian Grocery Store, they must be selling pre-made curry sauce and you'll be able to add chicken, vegetables etc!.
Or you could just go for takeout :)
I'm glad more people are starting to try Indian food, and not following the stereotype that it's too spicy and such!.
Owning an Indian restaurant, I would know!. We get toddlers who love our food :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
