Can you use oil when stewing beef?!

Question: Can you use oil when stewing beef!?
Answers:
Yes, you can use oil or margarine or butter or lard!. But I don't! I figure the meat has enough fat on it to keep it from sticking to the pan while I'm browning it before adding all the rest of the stew ingredients!.

So I just start with the pan on medium to medium high heat and then add the floured beef cubes and toss occasionally until browned!. Then I season the meat and add everything else including water or broth and then lower the temp and put on the lid!. I then stir it a few times over at least 2 hours and then steam dumplings on the top of it for the last 20 minutes!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why would you use oil when the beef already has enough fat in it to do the job!? Use a crock pot to get the results you desireWww@FoodAQ@Com

I season my beef, dust it w/ flour and sear it til brown in oil!. Drain off oil and add broth!. Is that what you mean!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
